Google Analytics Updates

If you’re using Google Analytic to monitor your website’s traffic, you’ve probably noticed a few changes lately. Google announced some updates to Analytic that will improve how you can view and sort data. (Note: these new features will be rolled out in the coming weeks, so you might not see everything yet.)

Updated user interface. The new interface isn’t radically different, but some subtle changes in the shading and lines around the boxes make it seem fresh. It’s still a very clean look and nothing major has changed.

Changes to management center. When you log in you’ll have quick summaries of all your stats. User management will also be improved, with better control over user accounts and access.

Create custom reports. See exactly the information you want with custom reports. You’ll be able to make your own charts and graphs, giving you more power to analyze your data.

Better traffic breakdowns. You’ll be able to more easily compare different kinds of traffic, like organic vs. PPC, and integrate that into custom reports.

New Motion Charts. Google’s new feature gives you the ability to chart data on 5-axes. Neat bubbles, colors, and history trails show you how keywords have performed on a number of metrics.

New API. With the new Analytic API, Google is opening the door to more developers to come up with features of their own.

Ad Sense integration. This will take a few months to be completely available, but you will have better performance metrics to view traffic sources, referring sites, and page views.

Google is using You Tube to help them announce these updates, and you can view Google’s videos which demonstrate the new capabilities.

Can Industrial Businesses Leverage Social Media?

Terms like ’social media’, ’social search’ and ‘web 2.0′ are becoming increasingly more common in SEO and SEM, but have yet to make their way into the vocabulary of most industrial business owners. In fact, most tools that fall under the ’social category’ are still quite elusive to some internet marketers themselves, which then begs the question, “what exactly is social media, and can industrial businesses leverage it for their SEM campaigns?”

The answer to this question lies in the vary nature of social search itself. ‘Yes - If its socially acceptable.’ Social communities that aggregate and share content are user controlled and based largely on trust.

For example, www.digg.com is a social content website: a portal where users can submit content and news stories, vote on submissions, approve or disapprove of entries. The most popular stories (those that receive the most ‘diggs’) make the home page’… and that’s a traffic driving dream.

The catch is this: avid participators can spot spam a mile away. And if youre spotted, youre done for. The key to driving traffic by submitting content related to your business to sites like digg, is offering relevant, interesting or controversial content that people want to read. Remember to think outside of the engineering paradigm. Educate and Entertain! As a regular participator, you can gain trust among the community and increase your chances of receiving diggs for your story.

So, with a little creativity, discretion and persistence, you can set apart your industrial website and create a presence among this rapidly growing social web phenomenon.

DIGG TIPS

To truly be successful with dig, persistence pays. Submitting one story per week and evaluating several others will eventually tip the scale in your favor. Before submitting content to dig, try asking yourself the following questions:

Who are my customers, and what entertains them?

Is there valuable information I can give to my readers thats not already on my website?

Are there subjects of interest that overlap the industrial marketplace and the general public?

Sound like a pain? Too much to learn and digest? Take heed: this stuff is big. Check out the about pages of the two sites that could drive traffic like a cop.

Driving Traffic: “It’s not just qualified anymore!

Sounds strange. With all the hype about qualified traffic, PPC campaigns and increasing conversions, why is unqualified traffic suddenly a good thing?

Well, don’t run too far with this, because if you’ve got a paid program in place you might break the bank. However, in some instances, ANY traffic can help your keyword rankings.

Here’s how it works:

With the advent of social search and web 2.0, algorithms are placing an increasing importance on site relevance when returning search results. Not only are back link quantities a factor, but back link popularity, their age and their ‘trust-factor,’ as Google puts it.

The more visibility a site has in social content-sharing communities such as digg.com, the more people who bookmark sites at del.icio.us, and the more blogs linking to a site at technorati.com… the greater the ‘trust-factor.’ Google is quick to return a result that they deem trustworthy,or, ‘relevant.’

Here’s how it applies:

As an engineer, your client base probably isn’t scouring the internet for tech-i.e. social sites. However, there is an ample audience that just might be willing to link to an article entitled “25 alternative uses for a drill press” from their humor blog. The link counts. The visibility counts. The presence counts. And these three factors will, in the long haul, boost your key word placement in the search engines.

Yes, it takes time. Yes, it takes imagination. But the more traffic you have to your site, the higher its page ranks, and so forth. It’s a good thing! It means virtually ALL your visitors are qualified. (Sans those PPC-ers.) They are either ready to buy, or helping your rank. Bless’em!

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization is often the foundation of a search engine marketing campaign, as natural placement for the right terms is the best type of marketing you can get.

SEO is simply the course of applying common sense and basic honesty to your approach and keeping in mind that you and the search engines share the same view. You want relevant traffic to your sites and that's exactly what the search engine wants to give you, as long as you have the most relevant and famous site. We help you improve your site to meet the criteria search engines look for.

Search Engine Optimization - Tricks of the trade

Search engines today recognize tricks such as Key-word packing, invisible keywords and cloaking. Many engines today have spam detectors and are looking constantly for over optimization procedures. Of course, ethical search engine optimization techniques are labor intensive and time consuming but that is the way we prefer. As always technology has to take the blame for some of the practices deployed by search engine optimizers. Each day sees a plethora of search engine optimization tools that promise to produce astounding results in a few hours. They only end up soaking the bandwidth of the search engine and its processing resources.

We don't consider "Search Engine Optimization" course as something secretive, something to be withheld. Understanding how search engines work, the methodologies used and choosing the right key phrases which is absolutely fundamental to the whole course. We consider Search Engine Optimization as an education where we impart knowledge into our team of executives. Practices that don't deliver have to be discarded away and an interactive dialogue often leads to an idea that requires a hand on approach. An initial approach would include:
